Louis XVI Neo-Classical Chair

I have always loved vintage furniture specially when you mix modern and vintage stuff. My room has a mixture of everything, but still I am trying to unify it a bit at a time. This post is about a beautiful chair. I recently found two images on pinterest and I finally knew what was the name of the design that I really liked. It´s called Louis XVI Neo-Classical Squared Chair even though it´s a bit more masculine than the Rococo style in the right, I think it makes it a little more modern mixable. I personally love how this illustrations compares the differences in styles between each of them. Being an Industrial designer myself I always try to look for quality classic pieces that will last forever and know the importance of good design.

Here you can see how mixed with contemporary decor you can use it so beautifully, this is the set of Fashion Police which I really like, this is a  modern version made by designer Jonathan Adler, I believe he updated the set with a full make over including his famous ceramic designs.

Since I always wanted one of those chairs I started to search on the web and on the local stores and second hand places (which I love), and found something very similar in Casa Dragon and it was on Sale! it cost only $150 uds compared with Adler´s price that is $1,295 usd mine was a bargain. So I purchase it, of course it needs a little bit of make over, but not much, basically just a new upholstery. So I am searching for a pretty fabric to make it even more perfect.

So stay tone for the make over of this pretty chair and how it will look in my bedroom! I´m so exited to see how it will look at the end!

DIY Oh Deer!

Sometimes you see things that makes you think “I could do something cool with that”  and not always know what right-away, but you have to follow your gut. One time I was walking in the grocery store and saw this very kitchy christmas deer, very inexpensive and I follow that felling because I saw potencial in it. So i bought it and decided to see if I could remove all that glitter.

I found some inspiration online and decided to painted white like this beautiful image!

This project took me 30 minutes with out the de-glittering

cost:  deer $2 usd  +  spray paint $3 usd

I soak the deer for like one whole day, scrubbing all the glitter and glue, layers of sticky glue.

I just had to make sure to clean up very well after I drained the water.

After a lot of cleaning this is what was underneath all that, the good thing is that i was made out of plastic otherwise it could be ruined for all the soaking. Then I paint it with a white spray paint (sorry no pic) like 4 coats in a ventilated area.

The result I think is quite beautiful, and I think you can do this with any figurines that you can find in those dollar stores, or even an old toy or vintage technology equiptment! For me works like a decorative paperweight and I love it!.

DIY Gray Chevron Tray

Chevron is patter that lately you see in every design you can get, carpets, phone covers, laptops, fashion and every decorative item. So This is nothing new but you can transform a ordinary object into a beautiful design piece!

Lovely_scrolling_chevron_tray

I have had this wooden tray for years; I even paint it one time bright lime green, until a few month ago that I decided to paint it with a more interesting pattern.I needed a tray to organize all of my things that I keep over my dresser. So I thought about that old tray of mine. But you can do this on whatever flat surface you can think of, a table, the front of a dresser or even a cushion.

This project took me  2 hrs.

In this case didn´t cost me anything because I had all the materials.

First you`ll need: some water based paint (in my case some leftovers I used in the past), a paintbrush, cutter, pencil, ruler and masking tape or painters tape.

First you´ll have to paint the entire tray white or any color that you´ll chose. Once you have a solid base color, you lightly measured out a checkerboard in pencil.  In my case, I decided on 5cm x 5cm squares. I then used masking tape or painter’s tape to cover everything that is going to stay white.

I started painting with regular acrylic wall paint.  It took a lot of coats to get a solid color. Finally you remove all the tape and you can touch up some of the possible mistakes with a very fine brush and some base color paint.

The final result is really amazing. You can use it to stack some books, magazines or even a flower base over a coffee table. It´s a very easy to do weekend project.  Here you can check out another chevron tray i made too!.
